How many capsules do I need to hold a teaspoon of powder?

Number of capsules needed to hold approximately one (1) teaspoon of powder:

Size 00          5 – 6             Size 0         7             Size 1         10

Size "0" Capsule Machine

  • Size "0" is the industry standard and most popular size used for capsulated products.
  • Size "0" is about 50% smaller than size "00" and is close to the size of a nickel.
  • Each "0" capsule will hold 400 mg - 800 mg or so (5,000 mg = 1 teaspoon), depending on the powder and whether or not you use a Tamper when filling the capsules. Heavy and dense powders, such as Bentonite clay, Kelp and Spirulina, will be closer to the 800 mg range in one "0" capsule. Light and fluffy powders, such as Slippery Elm and Eleuthero root, will be closer to the 400 mg range in one "0" capsule. Of course, using a Tamper will drastically increase the amount that will fit into each capsule.

Size "00" Capsule Machine

  • Size "00" is about 50% larger than size "0" and is nearly the size of a quarter.
  • Each "00" capsule will hold 550 mg - 1,100 mg or so (5,000 mg = 1 teaspoon), depending on the powder and whether or not you use a Tamper when filling the capsules. Heavy and dense powders, such as Bentonite clay, Kelp and Spirulina, will be closer to the 1,100 mg range in one "0" capsule. Light and fluffy powders, such as Slippery Elm and Eleuthero root, will be closer to the 550 mg range in one "0" capsule. Of course, using a Tamper will drastically increase the amount that will fit into each capsule.
  • Because none of us have a hard time swallowing capsules, this is our favorite size for use in our home. Someone that does not like to swallow capsules may prefer the smaller sized "0".

Now available in models for three size capsules: “00”, “0”, and #1. Fills 24 Capsules in 10-15 minutes! Semi-automatically joins and ejects filled capsules.   A hint or two about using this device successfully.  Before you put your powder into the capsule bottoms that are loaded into the unit, take the tamper piece and insert it into the empty capsules to straighten any that may sit a bit lopsided. then proceed to fill the capsules with your powder.  Due to capsules now having locking ridges on them, this unit doesn't necessarily allow you to apply enough pressure to lock the capsules completely, and you may have to push the two pieces together by hand once dumped out, in order to lock them completely. The two pieces will be joined together when dumped out, but may not be as tightly closed without that added pressure by hand that locks the caps.  It's important to take your time with this unit when pressing the tops onto the bottoms, and to be gentle when applying the pressure to bring the two pieces together.

Some people don't have a need to make very many capsules, thus they simply fill each one by hand as needed, which is easily done - see info above.
